Erfoud is an oasis town located in the Sahara Desert, within the Meknès-Tafilalet area of the Maghreb region in eastern Morocco. Erfoud is divided into several districts: Hay Salam, Hay Jdid, Hay Ziz, Hay el Bathaa, Hay Annahda, Hay el Hamri. Its close proximity to the desert village of Merzouga in the Erg Chebbi Dunes has led to the development of tourist-related infrastructures in Erfoud, such as hotels and restaurants. MAIN TOURIST ATTRACTIONS • Royal Palace. Erfoud is home to the only Royal Palace in the Sahara Desert of Morocco. • Erfoud's Souq. This is a traditional Moroccan market. • Maadid Ancient Ksar. Maadid is believed to be the largest ksar in southern Morocco. A ksar is an ancient fortified village. • Carrières de fossils. Erfoud is renowned for its valuable and unique fossils. • Borj-Est. This is the hill that provides a panoramic view of Erfoud. The top is occupied by a strategic military building. • Jewish Cemetery. The interesting blend of cultures makes this part of the desert particularly intriguing.
